Osimhen leads Napoli’s comeback win against Monza
Nigerian striker Victor James Osimhen showcased his prowess on Sunday, sparking Napoli’s remarkable comeback against Monza with a stellar performance. After enduring a five-game scoring drought, Osimhen roared back to form, leading Napoli to a thrilling 4-2 victory.
In a tense clash between the eighth-placed teams, with only three points separating them, Napoli had struggled in recent outings, securing just one win in their last seven matches. Monza caught the visitors off guard with an early goal by Milan Djuric in the 9th minute, capitalizing on a cross from Napoli loanee Alessio Zerbin. Despite Napoli’s persistent efforts to equalize, goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio thwarted their attempts, including a close call involving Osimhen.
However, Osimhen eventually broke the deadlock in the second half with a remarkable header from an Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa cross, albeit suffering a cut lip in the process. Moments later, Napoli seized control of the game. A deflected ball found substitute Politano, who unleashed a breathtaking left-footed volley into the top corner. Zielinski then extended Napoli’s lead with a powerful strike, putting them 3-1 ahead. Monza mounted a comeback with a deflected curler by Andrea Colpani, but Napoli’s dominance persisted. Osimhen nearly added another goal, but Di Gregorio intervened with a crucial save. Finally, Raspadori, off the bench, sealed the victory with his first touch, capitalizing on a rebound from Di Gregorio’s parry.
