Simone Biles: The Most Decorated US Olympic Gymnast
Simone Arianne Biles Owens has cemented her legacy as an unparalleled force in artistic gymnastics. With an astonishing collection of eight Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals, Biles stands as the most decorated gymnast in history, earning widespread acclaim as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Biles and the U.S. women’s gymnastics team clinched gold in the team final, adding another milestone to her already illustrious career. This victory propelled Biles to surpass Shannon Miller, making her the American gymnast with the most Olympic medals. Her impressive haul includes four golds from the Rio Olympics, along with a silver and two bronzes from Rio and Tokyo.
Remarkably, Biles is now on par with Nadia Comaneci and two other gymnasts for the third-most Olympic golds in women’s gymnastics, each boasting five golds. In the overall tally, she ranks seventh for most Olympic medals won by a female gymnast. Larisa Latynina, who competed for the Soviet Union, holds the record with 18 Olympic medals and nine golds.
Beyond the Olympics, Biles continues to shine. With a total of 38 medals from the World Championships and Olympics, she surpassed Vitaly Scherbo’s record after securing five medals at the 2023 World Championships, four of which were gold.
Allyson Felix is the only non-swimmer American woman with more Olympic medals than Biles, tallying 11. However, this record might soon fall, as Biles is qualified for four individual event finals in Paris: all-around, vault, balance beam, and floor exercise.
